DID YOU KNOW: ADVICE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL

A correct radial orientation is critical for slotted or hydro-elastic bushings. These must be fitted at a specific angle that allows them to operate correctly. Incorrect installation will be evident under load i.e., braking and acceleration.

A correct axial position is also critical as the right pressing depth will allow an easy installation of the reworked control arm onto the vehicle.

The typical approach to identify the correct positioning for the bush is:

  1. Note the position of the old bush prior to removing it from the control arm (add a mark, take a picture etc.)
    - problem: the installer may forget to note the original position, or a worn bush might be so damaged that it is difficult to determine its position.
  2. Look at the other side to see how the bush is fitted on the paired control arm
    - problem: bush orientation is not always clearly visible in a control arm installed on the vehicle's subframe, and a mirror effect needs to be considered to correctly replicate the fitting on the opposite side.
