STRONGER METAL for tougher parts

STRONGER METAL. TOUGHER CONTROL ARMS.
Control arms take on the highest loads and stresses in a vehicle’s suspension, especially in harsh driving conditions. Weak materials lead to deformation, misalignment, and safety risks—but not with MOOG.
WHY STRENGTH MATTERS
Control arms are subjected to high forces and stress during driving, especially when driving through potholes. Thus, the body of the control arm should be designed and manufactured with high resistance capabilities to overcome these forces. The body's shape, profile, and dimensions should be specific to provide the necessary strength to withstand high loads. Additionally, the sheet steel grade and thickness should be of high quality and appropriate for each application.

All steels have some level of elasticity, but they can only withstand a certain amount of load before experiencing permanent deformation. This value is called the Yield Strength. If the load exceeds the Yield Strength, the steel will not fully recover its initial shape, leading to permanent material deformation. This deformation negatively affects wheel geometry and the safety of the car and makes it impossible to correct wheel alignment within the tolerances of the car maker. The animation below shows the amount of deflection that parts may experience if manufactured from low-grade materials:

PUT STRENGTH TO THE TEST
During independent testing, MOOG demonstrated superior sheet metal strength by matching OE and outperforming competitors by up to 200%.
MOOG control arms do not permanently deform, bend or break, providing superior safety and durability for vehicle owners.

The tests were carried out in independent accredited laboratories by scientists using standardized industry tensile testing methodology of a specimen sample cut from the control arms*. OE, MOOG and competitor track control arms were tested for popular applications: Renault Megane II/Captur, Ford Fiesta VI, Volvo S40/Ford Focus II, Volkswagen Golf V&VI/Audi A3, Ford Transit.
According to the test results, MOOG control arm steel grade is up to 2x stronger than aftermarket competitors, ensuring that MOOG control arms can withstand the highest loads and stresses without permanent deformation. By choosing MOOG control arms, you offer your customers superior quality suspension parts that provide best-in-class performance, safety and durability.
