Replacing Ball Joints in Chevrolet and GMC Trucks & SUVs

Inside the Issue

Chevrolet and GMC trucks like the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 and SUVs like the Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon are extremely popular with millions of vehicles on the roadways. When making repairs to the steering and suspension system, technicians will find that the OE ball joint can’t be serviced, making it necessary to replace the entire control arm.

Removing the ball joint can be a difficult process with technicians often going to extremes to get the job done. Using the wrong tool like a die grinder to push out the ball joint can result in the control arm being destroyed.

Solving the Issue

MOOG® engineers took note of the issues and went to work on a solution. The result of their work is a redesigned ball joint that can be replaced in the OE control arm. MOOG’s redesigned K500408 ball joint is serviceable, allowing the OE control arm to be reused. In addition, the improved design features an angled grease fitting for easier access.

These improvements are another example of MOOG’s problem-solving spirit. MOOG prides itself in making advancements with the technician in mind – upgrades that improve performance, extend product life or aid in installation.
